Your Go-to Home Remedies for Teeth Whitening

A brighter smile that costs you less. It’s common for teeth to become discolored as we age. And factors like diet, oral health, and smoking can all contribute to stains and color change. Some people are willing to accept an off-white smile, but many others would prefer to flash a mouth full of pearly whites.

There are a number of tooth whitening products on the market, but unfortunately, many are expensive, ineffective, harsh, and potentially dangerous for your oral health. Luckily there are easy, inexpensive, and effective teeth whitening methods that you can make yourself.

DIY Home Remedies for Teeth Whitening

Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

You have probably seen toothpaste with baking soda included. That’s because sodium bicarbonate is mildly abrasive and can scrub away stains on the teeth. When combined with lemon juice which acts as a natural bleach, it forms a powerful teeth whitening paste. Simply mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough drops of lemon juice together to form a thick paste. Spread some on your toothbrush, spread it liberally across the teeth, and let it sit for one minute before rinsing it off.

Salt, Strawberry, and Baking Soda

The natural properties of strawberry help it to break down the plaque that turns teeth yellow and to gently remove stains. Salt helps to restore minerals to the teeth, plus it enhances the abrasive properties of baking soda. Mash together 1-2 strawberries, a pinch of salt, and ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Then apply to the teeth with a brush and leave on for five minutes.

Coconut Oil

This rich and fragrant oil is great for your health generally and can even aid with teeth whitening. Before you brush your teeth In the morning, take about a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around the mouth for about 15 minutes. Be sure to also “pull” the oil through the cracks in the teeth, and bring it into contact with every surface. Acid found in coconut oil helps to break down the bacteria that causes plaque and yellow teeth.
